Women Empowerment Programs

In SSRDP’s endeavour to promote economically self-reliant communities, ‘Women Empowerment Programs’ were started to engage rural women in income generation livelihood based activities. Rural women were trained in different skills like stitching, cutting, embroidery, bead work, for jute bags. A variety of jute bags have been manufactured ranging from fancy ladies handbags to utility bags. Agarbatti rolling provides another convenient and simple means for rural women to earn their livelihood.

Rural women trained at SSRDP have participated in stalls and fairs at a national level and are well trained to handle bulk orders. Various corporate organizations have supported SSRDP in the past with this program.

As a certified partner of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), SSRDP is authorized to provide NSDC certification for vocational and skill development trainings for around 2,000 job roles in 32 sectors. SSRDP offers its skill development and entrepreneurship programmes in partnership with Central and State Government departments, corporate groups, educational institutions and community-based organizations.

Our Approach

  • Setting up modular vocational training centers targeted towards empowering under-privileged youth from urban and semi-urban communities, leading to employment and income generating opportunities.
  • Empowering women from socially and economically backward sections and helping them augment their family income by providing meaningful skills trainings and market access for their goods and produce.
  • Creating empowered leaders through our leadership training programs to ensure ownership, sustainability of project and commitment.
  • Developing rural enterprise by creating rural entrepreneurs with eco-friendly and sustainable technologies that provide clean drinking water, energy access, smokeless cook-stoves, agri-farm support and many more.

Our Women Empowerment Initiatives

Beautician Training Programs

In Asia’s largest urban villages, our beauticians training programs make entrepreneurs and beauticians out of motivated young women. They can now run a small business from their homes, working for 3-4 hours a day alongside their regular household chores.

Sanitary Napkins Project

Our Stree Soukya Project was started in 2013 in the villages of Mohi and Mardi in Satara District in Maharashtra. Door to door awareness campaigns are being conducted on the importance of hygiene and the use of sanitary napkins. Presently 11 women have been trained in the manufacture of sanitary napkins.

Vista India

The project was started in1985 near Bengaluru to empower illiterate and abused women. Today, over 2000 women from 30 villages have been trained in sewing, embroidery and have also been taught basics of literacy, health and hygiene. Many are today employed in the local garment industry and others work from their homes to augment their family’s income.

Vishalakshmi Cooperative Society

Our women’s multi-purpose cooperative society has over 300 members with wonderful business ideas, originally hailing from underprivileged backgrounds working as housemaids or cooks. Under this project, various loans are dispersed to the members to facilitate self-employment at a low rate of interest.
